Having seen the negative impact addiction to prescription pharmaceuticals
can have on individuals in terms of cost, side effects, and a host of other
problems, I am convinced that one of the most important investments you can
make is in personal health care management, especially in the area of stress
illness management , control of toxic wastes in the body, drug caused illness
and focusing your attention in the heart.
For hundreds of years, one's heart has been regarded as the
original source of emotion, courage and intelligence. Research is being
conducted to determine the way one's heart 'talks' to the brain, and thus
having an influence on data processing, awareness, feelings and overall health.
Learning about this research is an investment in enhancing your quality of
life.
My researches into alternative methods of sustainable health
have continuously led me back to the heart. Many of the central health
disorders of modern life are also related to the heart and the cardio-vascular
system. With heart based practice we can learn to use the heart to heal the
heart.
The heart is actually a dynamical electricity producing
system; it not only pumps blood but also pumps electrical power to the entire
body and generates and electro-magnetic wave field that is far greater than the
one generated by the brain. Shifting attention to the heart has for its
objective becoming aware and controlling this electromagnetic wave field. We
need to learn to differentiate our electromagnetic energy from our spiritual
energy Inner thoughts and in many cases subtle feelings have an effect on the
action and harmony of the parasympathetic along with the sympathetic nervous
system together referred to as the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS
communicates with the digestive system, cardiovascular system, immune system
and hormone system.
Negative tendencies generate dysfunction and imbalances
within the ANS. Constructive emotions, for example. gratitude develop enhanced harmony and equilibrium within our nervous system that
are now measurable with the advanced technology of modern science, such as
increased hormonal and immune system balance and more efficient brain function.
In the healthy person one's heart rate approximated at any
moment signifies the net influence of the parasympathetic (vagus) nerve fibers,
which reduce the heart rate, and the sympathetic nerves, which quicken it.
These alterations are affected by feelings, thought processes, and exercising.
Our shifting heart rhythms influence not just one's heart but the brain's
capacity to process data, which includes decision-making, problem-solving and
creativity. Once we learn how to deliberately change the main focus of our
attention to the location of the heart, and produce distinct emotional states
for instance love and gratitude, this routinely exhibits enhanced autonomic nervous
system harmony. Particularly, increased balance between parasympathetic and
sympathetic nervous system.
Intentional focus of attention on the heart brings about enhanced
self-management of one's emotional and mental states that quickly exhibit much
more highly ordered physiological states which affect the performance of the
entire body as well as the brain.
The concentration of attention, which is a subtle faculty of
your spirit, in the physical heart, is the starting-point for positive,
sustained emotional appreciation and love and the point of departure for all
true prayer, especially the Prayer of the Heart .
And since prayer is an excellent way of sustained heart
focused appreciation, it directs human energy into the field of transpersonal
energy. When your personal energy links up with uncreated energy we begin to
experience the sustained health benefits of truly holistic health . And this
link carries with it a holistic health energy that can impact many of the
disorders we experience in our every-day living.
